We love the summer weather and pool time, but the chlorine can really wreak havoc on our hair, skin and nails! Here are a few simple some steps to minimize damage and maximize fun:

Hair-apy: If you’re hitting the pool regularly, rinse your hair before you go in. Your hair will be less absorbent to chemicals if it’s already wet. Doing laps? Wearing a bathing cap will help keep your hair out of the way, as well as keeping it out of the water. After swimming, be sure to wash and condition your hair with a leave-in conditioner to try and eliminate the chemicals sitting on your hair and replenish any lost moisture.

Save Face: Keeping your skin exfoliated and moisturized as a daily practice will help get your skin ready for the pool. Be sure to moisturize your skin after the pool – there are even some after-swim lotions available that help neutralize chlorine. Don’t forget to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water – it’s one of the best tricks for healthy skin.

Nail it: Our nails tend to get dry and brittle the more time we spend in the pool but what can we do? Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! We recommend using a body butter twice daily on your cuticles, pushing them back with your fingers. Also, add a cuticle oil to your nightly routine, so it does the work for you while you’re sleeping… Looking for expert care? Visit us in the spa!
